Sale of Online Tickets for South Caucasus Railways Using Mir Cards to Cease
Starting from March 30, 2024, the sale of online tickets for the South Caucasus Railways using bank cards issued by the Mir payment system will cease.
This information has been provided by the press service of the South Caucasus Railways company. It is noted that the company's partner, Ameriabank, will stop servicing bank cards issued under the Mir system from that date.
It is worth mentioning that Mir cards will no longer function in the majority of ATMs operated by Armenian banks beginning on March 30, with the exception of the infrastructure of VTB Armenia Bank.
The Central Bank of Armenia has also stated that commercial banks in Armenia independently decide which payment systems to cooperate with, based on their risk management strategies, including risks associated with sanctions.
In February 2024, the Mir payment system, or the Russian national payment system, was targeted by U.S. sanctions, with Washington asserting that this system allows Russia to circumvent sanctions and maintain ties with the international financial system.
