Major and Tragic Car Accident in Kotayk Province: 3 Dead and 5 Injured

Today, on March 22, a major and tragic car accident occurred in Kotayk Province. At around 18:10, on the 15 km stretch of the Yerevan-Sevan highway, near the Ardzvi monument, vehicles including a 'BMW', 'Skoda', 'Volkswagen', and 'Ford Transit' collided under unknown circumstances.

According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, as a result of the collision, the 'BMW' overturned. Three people died in the accident and five others were injured. Several of the injured were pulled from the vehicles by rescuers and citizens.

A criminal investigation has been initiated by the Abovyan Investigative Division regarding the accident. The police and the investigative division are clarifying the identity of the drivers, deceased, and injured individuals.

According to preliminary information, the driver of the 'BMW' is believed to be the cause of the accident. While heading toward Yerevan, the driver veered into the opposite lane, crossing over a green lawn, then collided with trees and metal barriers, breaking several trees and metal barriers, and ended up in the lane heading toward Sevan, where it crashed into the other vehicles and rolled over, severing the 'BMW' in half.

Firefighters, without waiting for the road service technicians to arrive, carried out road cleaning operations.
