Next Cyclone Approaching Armenia from the Mediterranean Sea: Snowfall Expected Again
Due to the powerful cyclone penetrating from the south, heavy precipitation continues to be observed across the entire territory of the Republic, particularly in Shirak, Lori, the foothills of Tavush, the mountains of Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Vayots Dzor, Gegharkunik, and the mountainous and foothill regions of Syunik, which is falling as snow. This information has been reported by the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.
The maximum snow depth currently reaches 156 cm near the summit of Aragats, 85 cm in Jermuk, 75 cm in Amberd, and 58 cm in Martuni, while in other mountainous regions it varies from 20 to 50 cm. In some areas of the Republic, the amount of precipitation recorded over the last 24 hours has reached the monthly norm. As of today, the total rainfall across all regions has exceeded the monthly norm, generally constituting 150-200% of the norm, and in certain sections, it has reached up to 276% of the standard.
As of now, precipitation continues in some areas of the Republic. After noon on March 20, the rainfall will temporarily cease. However, on March 21, the next cyclone from the Mediterranean region is expected to approach us, resulting in renewed rainfall in most regions, which will again fall as snow in mountainous areas.
