‘That Decision Was One of the Only Correct Decisions by the CPP’: Haik Marutyan

In 2018, Alen Simonyan wanted to become the mayor of Yerevan, and there was an internal discussion within the party suggesting that he should be. This was stated by former Yerevan Mayor Haik Marutyan during an episode of the LurjcCast show.

“An idea arose among me and my team (Marutyan’s desire to become mayor) that we could take on this responsibility and, utilizing our potential, develop it to the maximum. That proposal was made, and passing it through their rigid system was quite difficult. I believe, yes, the mentioned individual was a bit saddened by this,” Marutyan elaborated.

He also expressed the opinion that “that decision was one of the only correct decisions by the CPP.”

“It was done this way because they understood that their resources were limited and they could not stretch this whole situation. We managed to honorably come out from under that burden — referring to the municipality and our three years of work. We did as much as we could,” noted the former mayor. Marutyan added that “they had very interesting projects, but after three years, they were cut down with politically dull scissors.”
