Court to Challenge the Decision to Strip Hayk Marutyan of His Mandate

A new lawsuit will be filed in court against the Yerevan City Council. This time, the decision to strip Hayk Marutyan of his mandate will be contested, as reported by the newspaper "Zhoghovurd."

As early as the meeting on February 7, the Yerevan City Council decided to revoke the mandates of three opposition members: Sona Agekyan and Narine Hayrapetyan from the "Mother Armenia" faction, and the former mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, from the "National Progress" faction. The basis for the Council's decision was allegedly unexcused absences and non-participation in voting on projects, actions deemed to be politically motivated.

According to the newspaper "Zhoghovurd," the "National Progress" faction is preparing to file a lawsuit against this decision and contest the revocation of Hayk Marutyan's mandate. "Stripping a council member of their mandate is an illegal act, sheer bullying. We will contest this; once we present the case, we will announce it," said the faction leader Aram Torosyan in an interview.

Earlier, it was reported that the "Mother Armenia" faction has also filed a lawsuit in the Administrative Court against the decision to revoke the mandates of council members.
