Video: Man Illegally Stored Weapons and Ammunition in Yerevan Home and Ashtarak Summer House
Criminal investigators in Ashtarak received operational information that a 40-year-old man residing on Deranik Demirchyan Street in Yerevan was illegally storing weapons and ammunition at his home in the capital and at his summer house in Ashtarak.
During inspections, it was determined that ammunition had been supplied to him by a 35-year-old resident of Ashtarak. According to some reports, the Ashtarak resident had also supplied weapons to another individual.
The information was acted upon on March 4, in collaboration with the community police of Ashtarak. At 15:55 on Narekatsi Street in Ashtarak, the Yerevan man was arrested. He admitted that he possessed an illegal "Makarov" type pistol at his summer house and combat cartridges for an automatic rifle in an abandoned building on Nerses Ashtaraketsi Street in Ashtarak.
The man and the compiled documents were submitted to the Investigative Department of the Aragatsotn region, where a criminal case was initiated. Further actions revealed that, aside from the Yerevan resident, the 35-year-old man had also given two weapons to a 47-year-old relative from the same city.
On the same day, at 21:40, the 47-year-old relative was arrested in Yerevan and taken to the Ashtarak police department. He stated that the "Kalashnikov" automatic rifle was in his garage, while the "Makarov" pistol was kept at home under an iron cabinet. Shortly thereafter, the 47-year-old man's son voluntarily presented the "Makarov" at the police station.
The men presented to the preliminary investigation body were transferred to a detention facility. The next day, on March 5, searches were conducted at the Yerevan man’s summer house, where a "Makarov" type pistol with its factory number erased and 15 cartridges for a hunting rifle were found.
During the search of the Ashtarak resident's house and auxiliary structures, 3605 cartridges for the automatic rifle and one automatic rifle were discovered in the garage, while in the basement, there were 379 cartridges for the automatic rifle, two disassembled shotguns, one shotgun barrel, a cartridge chain with five cartridges, and in the apartment, one shotgun barrel, a pneumatic pistol, and optical devices for the rifle were uncovered. Additionally, 289 cartridges for the automatic rifle were found in an unfinished building on Nerses Ashtaraketsi Street.
The circumstances of the investigation are being clarified.
