Video: Approximately 17 Billion Drams Collected from Air Tax Last Year, Says Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure
Three years ago, we set an exception regarding the air tax by law and completely removed it for new directions. This was stated by Babken Tunyan, the chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Assembly, during a committee meeting, adding that the possibility of completely abolishing the air tax was also discussed.
He requested to present the existing statistics and how it has been functioning in this regard.
“I will not present the statistics at this moment; I will present them at the next meeting with more precise figures. Regarding the air tax, last year, we collected an amount of about 17 billion drams. This is collected from individuals leaving the Republic of Armenia by airline companies. There are certain privileges related to the diameter, or for example, it is not charged from transit passengers, etc. That privilege has operated in several directions, based on which we have a specific passenger flow.
The air tax is applied with different mechanisms in various countries, there are places where it is not applied, instead, hotel taxes are implemented by municipalities. In our case, we do not apply the air tax upon entry; we apply it upon exit,” said the Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
