EU Approves First Law to Protect Against Artificial Intelligence Risks
The European Parliament has become the first in the world to approve a law concerning artificial intelligence that will regulate the development of AI systems and protect citizens from its risks. According to BBC reports, the parliament voted in favor of the bill on March 13.
The law is set to come into force no earlier than 2025. The law categorizes AI systems into groups and establishes specific limitations and control measures for each group. For instance, systems designed to influence human subconsciousness will generally be prohibited, as will biometric recognition systems that function in real-time.
Additionally, systems that generate content, such as ChatGPT, will be required to clearly label their products and not present them as works produced by humans. By passing this bill, Members of the European Parliament aim to ensure that systems are monitored by humans, remain safe and transparent, do not discriminate against users, and contribute to environmental protection.
