India Announces Successful Test of Ballistic Missile

Indian scientists have successfully tested the "Agni-5" ballistic missile, equipped with individual guidance technology for multiple independently targetable reentry vehicles (MIRVs). This was announced by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to reports from TASS.

“I am proud of the scientists from the Defence Research and Development Organisation for conducting the first test launch of the ‘Agni-5’ missile, which has been developed in India and is equipped with individual guidance technology for MIRVs,” the Prime Minister wrote on the social media platform X.

He did not provide details regarding the specifics of the missile's test or its nature. India has developed several types of missiles from the “Agni” family, including “Agni-1” with a range of 700 km, “Agni-2” with a range of 2,000 km, “Agni-3” with more than 3,000 km, and “Agni-5” with a range exceeding 5,000 km. Local media reports indicate that the development of the “Agni-6” missile is also underway, which is expected to have a range of up to 10,000 km and the capability of being launched from submarines.
