Details Revealed About the Unified Ticketing System

Zaruhi Aghajanyan, a member of the Yerevan Council from the "Civil Contract" faction, has shared details about the unified ticketing system on her Facebook page. Below is the post.

“Was it necessary to revise transportation fares after 30 years? Absolutely yes, as Yerevan's transportation system today includes not only marshrutkas and taxis but also German and Chinese manufactured buses and trolleybuses, which have different maintenance costs, and their numbers are continually increasing and modernizing.

Will the transport fare for our frequent users become 300 drams? Of course not; for example, when purchasing an 8800 dram package, the cost per trip for users who travel twice a day becomes 146 drams, while for those who travel four times a day, it drops to 73 drams. This means fares do not increase but actually decrease.

Will this system make it easier for citizens to move around the city? Definitely yes, because to get from point A to point B, citizens will not have to wait long for a single transport option; instead, they will be able to transfer more quickly without additional charges since the purchased package allows unlimited travel for 30 days. This will also solve the overcrowding on certain transport routes.

Are there groups of people for whom paying 146 drams for a single trip is difficult? Certainly yes, and that’s why the Yerevan Council will present all the proposed packages for privileged groups by September, allowing them to travel at significantly lower prices or for free.

Should infrequent users or tourists pay a higher fare? Certainly, as such practices exist in all countries of the world, and these additional funds allow for benefits to be provided to those for whom the 146 drams truly is a burden.

Finally, I would like to add that the transport fare has been revised after 10 years to prevent future collapses of subsequent city governments, eliminate the current shadow economy, and, of course, ensure that the development of the transport system continues. The decision will enter into force on September 1, along with the benefits package.”
