Prime Minister Pashinyan Uses Funds Meant for Artsakh Armenians for Other Issues
The newspaper 'Jamanak' reports that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has a clear decision regarding the international funds allocated for forcibly displaced residents of Artsakh. It is noteworthy that in 2023, it was announced that 144 billion AMD was to be transferred to Artsakh. This was stated by former Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan during the discussions of the 2023 state budget in the National Assembly.
If we add the 144 billion AMD to the 2 million USD allocated to Artsakh Armenians by Japan, equivalent to 820 million AMD, as well as the 11 million USD provided by the USA, approximately 4 billion 716 million AMD, and the 10.4 million euros transferred by the European Commission, equivalent to 4 billion 506 million AMD, along with the 350 thousand euros granted by Latvia, equivalent to 151 million AMD, the 1.5 million franc provided by Switzerland, equivalent to 675 million AMD, and the 2.5 million USD granted by Canada, which is equivalent to 1 billion 25 million AMD, it turns out to be a total of 155 billion 893 million AMD.
The matter is that Nikol Pashinyan has decided to spend these funds differently. He has established a theorem that the displaced Artsakh residents will not be singled out, and the funds will be spent not directly for the Artsakh people, but for all homeless citizens of Armenia.
This suggests that Nikol Pashinyan is attempting to improve the socio-economic situation of Armenia with the funds received from abroad for the needs of displaced Artsakh Armenians and to credit these actions to himself. This move will subsequently help him boast during election campaigns, attributing all these actions to himself.
It is worth mentioning that a project is circulating to provide each displaced person with 3 million AMD to purchase a home. It is clear that they will only be able to buy homes in remote border communities with these funds, as there is no demand in those areas.
