Video: Clashes in Jerusalem Ahead of Ramadan

Edita

Clashes have occurred in the Old City of Jerusalem due to the Israeli police's restrictions on entry to the Temple Mount for Muslim individuals under 40 years old. This was reported by the Israeli agency Yedioth Ahronoth, as relayed by ren.tv.

The authorities have prohibited young Palestinians from entering, fearing they might cause disturbances. At the same time, Arab social media has reported that access to the Temple Mount will be permitted regardless of age, after checks by the relevant bodies.

Earlier, Israeli authorities announced that during the first week of the holy month of Ramadan, the rules for allowing Muslim worshippers to access the Temple Mount in Jerusalem would remain the same as they were one year ago. This decision was made during a consultation involving Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The Prime Minister's Office stated that the authorities of the Jewish state are committed to the principles of religious freedom and are paying special attention to the Temple Mount.

On the previous day, thousands of protesters took to the streets of Tel Aviv, demanding the government’s resignation and the release of hostages held by Hamas. During the mass protest, 16 individuals were arrested for organizing unauthorized marches and violating public order.
