Navalny's Photograph Equated with 'Extremist Symbols'
The Murmansk court has ruled that a photograph of political figure Alexei Navalny, displayed without any signature or slogan, is to be considered a symbol of an "extremist organization," as reported by Novaya Gazeta.
Judge Roman Girich of the Murmansk Oktyabrsky Court made this determination in the administrative case against Marina-Viktoriya Nagornikh, who allegedly displayed Navalny's photograph near a residential building on a tree. She has been sentenced to 7 days of detention.
In March, courts in at least four regions of Russia have already identified the surname "Navalny" with extremist organization symbols, making rulings regarding administrative violations for participants of actions dedicated to Alexei Navalny.
In Chelyabinsk, Krasnodar, and Murmansk, courts have imposed detention on defendants in these cases due to the presence of the name "Navalny" on banners.
