Video: Armenia and Iran's Foreign Ministries Issue Joint Statement in Tehran
On March 9, in Tehran, a meeting was held between Vahan Kostanyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, and Ali Bagheri Kani, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, for the latest political consultations between the foreign ministries of Armenia and Iran. The discussions covered a wide range of issues concerning Armenia-Iran bilateral relations, regional developments, and the two countries' cooperation within various multilateral platforms.
During the political consultations, the Armenian delegation led by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs was received by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The parties adopted the following joint statement:
“On March 9, 2024, the Armenian delegation led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vahan Kostanyan visited Tehran at the invitation of Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri for the purpose of holding regular consultations at the level of the deputy ministers. During the meeting, the parties discussed the most important issues concerning bilateral, regional, and international relations. Expressing satisfaction with the developing bilateral ties, the parties emphasized the importance of deepening relations and enhancing the level of cooperation.
Citing the outcomes of the 18th session of the Joint Economic Cooperation Commission held on February 14-15 in Tehran, they underscored the necessity of promoting the implementation of the agreements mentioned in the signed protocol.
Regarding the ongoing peace negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, the parties highlighted the importance of resolving existing issues exclusively through peaceful means to achieve lasting peace and enhance regional connectivity and cooperation in the South Caucasus. In this regard, both sides emphasized the necessity of respecting the principles of sovereignty, legitimacy, equality, reciprocity, and the inviolability of internationally recognized borders.
The parties stressed the importance of holding regular consultations between the two ministries in various sectors and at different levels and agreed to conduct the next consultations at the level of deputy ministers in Armenia within the next six months.”
