US Prepares for Possible Russian Nuclear Strike on Ukraine: CNN
The United States has been preparing since the end of 2022 for a possible nuclear strike on Ukraine by Russia using tactical or strategic nuclear weapons. This was reported by CNN, citing two senior sources from the presidential administration. The information is relayed by gazeta.ru.
According to them, the relevant decision was made based on analysis, a comprehensive study of the overall situation around Ukraine, and new extremely important intelligence data. One of the network's interlocutors emphasized that these data were not merely hypothetical; they were also based on specific information. The United States needed to prepare plans to effectively respond if there were signs of an attack and preparations for an actual strike.
Thus, from late summer to autumn 2022, the National Security Council of the United States held several meetings to develop such plans. CNN also reported that the American leadership established communication with India and China, conveying their concerns to Moscow. According to the network, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken informed Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov 'directly' about these concerns, while General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, spoke by phone with Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov. Additionally, CIA Director Bill Burns traveled to Turkey for discussions with the head of Russia's foreign intelligence service, Sergey Naryshkin.
