The Ruling Ship Is Not Sinking, No Snap Elections Expected: Edmon Marukyan Comments on Resignation Rumors

No snap parliamentary elections are expected, and there are currently no plans for a constitutional referendum before the elections. This was stated by Edmon Marukyan, the former ambassador with special assignments, while commenting on rumors regarding his resignation in preparation for snap elections.

“I have been thinking about my resignation for about three months. I have seen the media reactions: ‘He stepped down on the eve of the upcoming snap elections.’ I can categorically say that no snap parliamentary elections are expected, and a constitutional referendum is also not anticipated before the elections, at least at this point,” Marukyan said.

He added, “They say the ruling ship is sinking and people are abandoning it. The ruling ship is not sinking. The government received 32% of the votes in the Yerevan elections, which means it can garner more in the regions. Therefore, the government’s situation, in political terms, is not bad. My resignation application has nothing to do with the simplistic theses circulating in the media.”
