For Me, This Is the Final Chapter: Erdoğan on Upcoming Elections
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has announced that the local elections scheduled for March 31 will be his last, given the current legislation. The information was reported by TASS.
“For me, this is the final chapter. These elections will be my last within the framework of the powers reserved by law. Based on the results, there will be a (transfer of) authority to my brothers, who will come after me,” he said.
Erdoğan's statement was relayed by local television channels.
In the 2023 presidential elections, Erdoğan won in the second round, garnering 52.18% of the votes, while his opponent, Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, received 47.82%. Voter turnout was recorded at 85.71%. Erdoğan has secured the right to govern the country for the next five years.
