What Prices Does 'Mother Armenia' Propose for Transportation?
The 'Mother Armenia' faction held a public discussion on the topic of 'Rising Transportation Fares and Their Consequences.' Opposing the increase in urban transport fares, the faction presented its proposal regarding the prices.
According to the faction leader Andranik Tevanian, speaking during the discussions on March 7, the cost of public transport in Yerevan should remain unchanged: trolleybus fares should be set at 50 drams, while bus and metro fares should remain at 100 drams.
He emphasized the need for a unified ticketing system. "Pensioners and people with disabilities should be able to use public transportation for free. For other citizens, if they use public transport four times or more, we suggest introducing cards costing 400 drams, valid for 24 hours from activation. For cards valid for up to seven days, we propose introducing tickets priced at 2000 drams, which can be used an unlimited number of times throughout the week. For a one-month card, we suggest tickets costing 5500 drams under the same conditions, and for cards valid for up to 180 days and one year, respectively, 20,000 drams and 35,000 drams," Tevanian highlighted.
He expressed discontent with the government's intentions to raise fares. "Transportation reforms should not be limited to just purchasing buses; they should also include proper passenger flow management, policies on road congestion, and the implementation of both surface and underground parking facilities, along with other comprehensive measures," the politician noted.
Tevanian believes that subsidies should remain in place at least until the completion of the reforms.
