There Are Certain Issues Between the Parties: Mirzoyan on Armenian-Azerbaijani Negotiations
During the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan gave an interview to the Turkish Anadolu news agency. Among other issues, he discussed the Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations and the resolution process.
According to the Armenian Foreign Minister, there are certain problems between the parties, some of which they have reached an agreement on. "The approaches of the parties differ on two important issues. The first issue is the principle of determining the borders of the two countries, and the second is the unblocking of regional connections and transport hubs," he said.
Noting that no one has the authority to draw new borders, Mirzoyan stated that Yerevan wishes to include the Alma-Ata Declaration of 1991 in the peace agreement draft. He mentioned that no positive response has been received from Azerbaijan regarding this matter.
Mirzoyan also stated that the Armenian side is "ready to open transport routes along all the paths and hubs in the region." The minister emphasized that the Armenian side is against the involvement of third countries in ensuring the safety of transport routes passing through Armenia, asserting that transportation routes in the region "should be under the sovereignty and jurisdiction of the country where they are located. The principles of reciprocity and equality are important. The process should be built on these approaches."
"The same principle of reciprocity and equality must apply to the transport routes through Azerbaijan, and similar authorities over the roads passing through those areas should belong to Baku," Mirzoyan pointed out, stressing that the Azerbaijani side has not approved this principle.
Responding to a question about whether a date for the next meeting was set during his meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov in Berlin, Mirzoyan replied that a date for a new meeting has not been determined; they are in constant contact and hope to set a new date for the meeting soon.
