The System is Working Very Normally: Avanesyan on Electronic Prescriptions

As of March 1, approximately 40,000 electronic prescriptions have been issued in Armenia. This was stated by the Minister of Health of Armenia, Anahit Avanesyan, during a briefing with reporters.

The minister noted that they are collecting all the issues on a daily basis and providing solutions. Additionally, frequently asked questions are summarized and answered.

"This number indicates that the system is working very normally. However, I kindly ask for our citizens' understanding, knowing that there are certain difficulties in the initial days of any such reforms," said the minister.

According to her, citizens' complaints mostly stem from a lack of information. For example, citizens are using a medication that they need for a long time and are concerned about whether they need to visit a doctor every time.

"We inform them that there is no need; they can purchase these medications with a one-time prescription for quite a long time," she stated.

It is noteworthy that starting from March 1, 470 types of medications are being sold with electronic prescriptions, 375 of which are free or on preferential terms. The electronic prescription system includes 20 percent of registered medications in Armenia, while a total of 3,370 types of medications are registered in the country. By January 1, 2025, 2,566 types of medications will be sold electronically. The remaining medications will be sold freely as they are not included in the list of medications that require a mandatory prescription.
