Sweden Officially Joins NATO
Sweden has officially joined NATO. The corresponding agreement was published on the website of the U.S. Department of State.
"On March 7, 2024, the conditions set forth in Article 2 of the protocol regarding the Kingdom of Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Treaty were fulfilled. Accordingly, the protocol has entered into force as of March 7, 2024," the document states.
Sweden has become the 32nd member of NATO. As reported by TV4, Sweden's flag will be raised at NATO's headquarters in Brussels on March 11.
According to the North Atlantic Treaty, a state officially becomes a NATO member after the U.S. government receives ratification documents from all alliance members.
