EU Must Produce Next Generation Weapons to Ensure Battlefield Victory: Ursula von der Leyen

The European Union must broadly commence the production of next-generation weapons to secure victory on the battlefield. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Bucharest at the European People’s Party (EPP) Congress, where she is expected to be confirmed as the EPP candidate for the leadership of the new European Commission.

"The EU must ensure the production of next-generation weapons capable of winning on the battlefield, and the European People's Party is the party that can advance Europe to be able to defend itself. We need to appoint a special commissioner for defense in the new European Commission — this is one of the promises of the European People's Party," said von der Leyen, as quoted by TASS.

She also announced that the main theme for security in the EU is Ukraine, to which the EU must provide even more weapons and money. "Prosperity is impossible without security. And the main topic for security in the EU is Ukraine. We will stand shoulder to shoulder with it as long as necessary, providing it with more money and weapons," von der Leyen stated.
