Azerbaijan Comments on Mirzoyan's Interview

“The foreign minister, who emphasizes the importance of recognizing sovereignty and territorial integrity, highlights the significance of the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration in the delimitation of borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as the necessity of respecting the principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, and equality in establishing transportation links and economic relations in the region, unfortunately, seeks to obscure the 30-year violations of these principles by Armenia,” stated the spokesperson for the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Ayhan Hajiyev, commenting on the interview of Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

He noted that such statements from Armenia’s foreign minister, which “aim to mislead the international community, do not reflect the realities.”

“Armenia has claims against Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty. The reservations Armenia has accepted regarding the Alma-Ata Declaration are well-known, as are the legislative acts prohibiting the recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan,” Hajiyev said, adding, “Instead of such provocations and political manipulations against Azerbaijan, the Armenian side should fulfill its international obligations not just in words, but in actions, and contribute to the peace process.”

Earlier, it was reported that Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan gave an interview to Turkey's Anadolu Agency during the Antalya Diplomatic Forum. Among other issues, he discussed Armenian-Azerbaijani negotiations and the settlement process.
