New Details Regarding Edmond Marukyan's Resignation Application
"Joghout" daily reports: "Against the backdrop of significant geopolitical developments surrounding Armenia, Armenia's special envoy Edmond Marukyan recently announced that he has submitted a resignation request. The former envoy has not disclosed the reasons for his resignation, merely hinting in his statement that he has disagreements with the current government regarding foreign policy issues.
New details have emerged regarding the reasons for Edmond Marukyan's departure. The primary reason is that Marukyan has deemed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's peace agenda a complete failure, which he explicitly communicated to Pashinyan, stating that there has been no progress in negotiations and that the peace agenda is stagnant. In contrast, Azerbaijan continues to make unilateral demands on Armenia, which Armenia is obliged to meet.
Marukyan has explained to those around him that one of the reasons for his departure was that the Armenian side agreed to fulfill Azerbaijan's latest absurd demand, which is to withdraw all claims against Azerbaijan from international bodies. Moreover, a prior agreement between the two countries had been reached based on the principle of reciprocity. However, as always, Azerbaijan violated this agreement and has not withdrawn its claims, while Pashinyan has instructed Armenian officials to prepare requests to withdraw claims against Azerbaijan.
According to "Joghout" daily, one of the reasons for Edmond Marukyan's resignation was one of his tweets regarding the Khojalu massacre, which led to a phone call from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the coordination of Ararat Mirzoyan, reprimanding Marukyan and prohibiting him from making similar posts in the future. Furthermore, according to sources from the media, the hint of Marukyan's resignation was made not by Pashinyan, but rather by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs itself.
These ongoing events have fueled tensions within Marukyan's "Enlightened Armenia" party. The situation has escalated to the point where members of the LHK have demanded that Marukyan resign from either his position as an envoy or as the party's leader. The LHK stated that holding a position under this government only harms them, and even though they disagree with the current authorities on many issues, they cannot openly voice their concerns and act as a true opposition. As a result, Edmond Marukyan has decided to resign from his position as Armenia's special envoy.
