Armenia Could Become the West's New Victim Like Ukraine, Says Zakharova
By luring Ukraine into its web, the West made enticing promises, presented everything in the best light, but later abandoned it. I would not wish the same fate for Armenia. This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during a press briefing.
“Armenia has gone through a historically difficult path, which includes genocides, the defense of sovereignty, the struggle for its culture, complex territorial disputes, problems, and conflicts. This country and this people deserve to live in peace and must not be made an object of bargaining by unscrupulous Western politicians,” she said.
According to her, Russia sincerely wishes Armenia peace and considers Yerevan an ally. “Thus, we sincerely wish peace, stability, and prosperity for this state, both out of love for this country and its people, and from a pragmatic standpoint. The prosperity of this region depends on this well-being. Unfortunately, we see how the West, sated with the game around Ukraine, has thrown it into a corner like a broken, beaten puppet and has begun to search for a new victim. Let us hope that the new victim will not be Armenia, which they will lure and deceive,” Zakharova noted.
She pointed out that “Armenia has historically known who has always come to help.” Commenting on Armenia’s rapprochement with the EU, Zakharova mentioned that the EU is executing direct orders from the USA and views Armenia as a gateway to the region.
“Certain politicians in Yerevan perceive the suddenly increased attention from the EU towards the republic either as a remedy or as bait,” Zakharova said. She also drew a parallel with the policies of colonizers. According to Zakharova, some political figures in Armenia do not even realize that they are turning Armenia into yet another tool of Western geopolitical ambition, a disposable material. Meanwhile, collective Western powers are using the state for opportunistic goals and leaving it at the whims of fate.
