Video: Sasun Mikayelyan on the Return of an Azerbaijani Soldier
During the time of the commander, we were able to liberate part of our homeland that was in the hands of the adversary. Today, "Ekrbakh" is doing the same; since the 44-day war, we are maintaining our state borders. This was stated today, on March 5, by the President of the Union of Volunteers Sasun Mikayelyan during a conversation with journalists at the Yerablur Pantheon.
“You are better informed about the directions, and it is not appropriate to specify here. I would like to address the people that during today’s difficult situation, both in terms of foreign policy and the reconfigurations of major powers, particularly in our region, we need to be a bit wiser and united, so we do not face greater difficulties in the future,” he said.
When asked what it means to be wise, to not respond to enemy fire, he replied, “You do not deal with the enemy's fire; our army, Ekrbakh, and various structures stand against the enemy. There is no need to spread misinformation arbitrarily; everyone talks about something; we need to be united.”
Regarding the situation created in Nerkhin Hand, Sasun Mikayelyan stated, “The 'Ekrbakh' has been in Nerkhin Hand for 3-4 years; I simply did not want everything to spread like this. A large number of 'Ekrbakh' are positioned along almost the entire length of the defense line. There have been shots fired, and we respond as well.”
With respect to the fact that the authorities issued a statement after the events in Nerkhin Hand, stating that they would investigate and punish all those who violated the order to avoid provocations, the President of the Union of Volunteers remarked, “That was said for general foreign policy, but has that guy been caught? That guy returned with me from Hand.”
Concerning the National Security Service’s announcement that as a gesture of goodwill they would return the Azerbaijani soldier who had armedly invaded Armenian sovereign territory and was captured, Sasun Mikayelyan said, “We also have captives there; that is not my issue; my issue is to maintain the border. The NSS knows what it is doing.”
