Illegal Sale of Anonymous, Non-Excise Cigarettes in Armenia

Illegal sale of cigarettes of unknown origin in Armenia is gaining new momentum. Once again, anonymous, non-excise cigarettes are being sold online, reports the newspaper "Joghourt".

The newspaper had previously reported that especially in rural areas, the sale of cigarettes of unknown origin had become widespread. However, a year later, the situation has evidently not improved.

According to "Joghourt", the sale of cigarettes of unknown origin continues on one of the most popular sales websites, List.am. A photo circulating on List.am shows that the cigarettes, which are local products, are sold at 2800 drams per block.

The images also indicate that there are no labels on the cigarette package. This means that the buyer does not know what they are purchasing, what the quality is, or who produced it; it is only clear that it is cheap, and that it is a cigarette package, and nothing more," the newspaper adds.
