Father of Soldier Killed in Accident Did Not Receive Reception from Karen Andreasyan, Lawyer Says
The father of a soldier who died in a car accident has not received a response after five days of seeking an audience from the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Karen Andreasyan, or any of the Council's staff, according to lawyer Raffi Aslanyan.
“The request expressed by the citizen of the Republic of Armenia was very simple— to propose to the President of the Republic to appoint a judge to the Court of Appeals to review the criminal case regarding the death of his son after March 12, as this date marked the end of the defense's arguments in an ongoing case that has lasted for three years. With a new judge, the case would resume, and the statute of limitations for bringing the accused to criminal responsibility would undoubtedly be fulfilled,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
“So concerned about the reasonable timeframes for judicial proceedings, even the officials who make films on the topic omitted to meet the grieving parent, in the end, a 'proud citizen,' whose son served in a reconnaissance unit of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia on combat duty. The judge was appointed today to the position of a judge in the Court of Appeals and is undoubtedly a deserving professional, but the criminal case is likely to start over from scratch. You will only be measured by the fear of dependent judges depicted in your political films...”
P.S. The soldier died back in July 2021 in the Syunik region while returning to the permanent deployment area after fulfilling a combat mission, when a drunken driver in a civilian vehicle hit the military vehicle carrying soldiers at high speed, causing it to overturn.
