VIDEO: Armed Gang Attacks Main Prison in Haiti, Hundreds of Inmates Released
Julya
Members of an armed group have attacked the main prison in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, releasing several hundred inmates. This was reported by the newspaper "Gazette Haiti." There is currently no information on casualties or injuries resulting from the attack.
The prison guards were freed following the release of the inmates. It has been noted that the assault occurred during the absence of Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who had arranged for a peacekeeping force to be sent to Haiti to combat armed groups.
The security situation and humanitarian conditions in Haiti have deteriorated since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021 and an earthquake in August of that same year, which claimed more than 2,200 lives.
