Oligarchs and Show Business Representatives Held Accountable for Tinted Windows

The Patrol Service of the Police of the Republic of Armenia continues to hold drivers accountable administratively for operating vehicles with tinted windows that exceed the permitted visibility standards. Shamshyan reports that this year alone, the patrols have taken administrative action against numerous drivers in Yerevan whose vehicle windshields and side windows have been excessively tinted.

According to the site, representatives from legislative and executive bodies, well-known oligarchs in Armenia, show business figures, and businessmen have also faced administrative penalties for such offenses. Some of those charged disagree with the administrative acts issued by the patrol officers and are appealing to the courts to overturn the decisions made by the police.

On March 1, patrol officers from the fourth battalion of the Police Patrol Service in Yerevan spotted a Nissan vehicle with tinted windows and transit plates on Myasnikyan Avenue. The officers stopped the driver, examined the vehicle's front and side windows, and confirmed with a special device that they did not meet the standards, resulting in administrative penalties for the driver, 28-year-old Gegham Arakelyan, a resident of Kotayk Province. He justified his actions by claiming that the vehicle had just been imported into Armenia and had not yet had the windows cleaned.
