FIFA President Gianni Infantino Firmly Opposes Introduction of Blue Cards
FIFA is completely against the implementation of blue cards. “No way,” stated FIFA President Gianni Infantino, expressing strong opposition to the introduction of blue cards into the laws of the game.
The British newspaper The Telegraph reported last month that the International Football Association Board would announce the start of trials for blue cards. The publication indicated that these cards would be shown to players for excessive disputes with referees and tactical fouls. If a player receives a blue card, they will be suspended for 10 minutes. Two blue cards in a single game would equate to a red card, resulting in the player’s ejection.
The newspaper mentioned that they intend to test this innovation in women's and youth football, as well as in lower league competitions. At the same time, according to the report, the Football Association of England is ready to implement this rule in its competitions for the next season.
Later, FIFA prematurely assessed the discussions regarding the introduction of blue cards.
