Why Araik Harutyunyan Resigned: Artsakh MPs Summoned to the Investigative Committee
Artsakh's National Assembly deputies are being summoned one by one to the Investigative Committee for questioning.
According to information obtained by the newspaper "Zhoghovurd", Armenian law enforcement is questioning the parliamentary members of Artsakh regarding the recent events in Artsakh, particularly the reasons behind the resignation of the former president Araik Harutyunyan, who was unlawfully detained by Azerbaijan.
As we were informed, the representatives from the ruling faction of Artsakh – the "Free Homeland – ARF" bloc – have been questioned so far. In a conversation with us, Araik Harutyunyan's fellow deputy from the "Free Homeland – ARF" faction, Aram Harutyunyan, noted that he has not been summoned and is not aware of similar information concerning his colleagues.
“Perhaps they have been summoned; I am not aware. However, I have not been called for questioning,” said the deputy.
It should be added that the investigators are mainly interested in determining who pressured Araik Harutyunyan to resign and what transpired behind the scenes. There might be testimonies from the Artsakh lawmakers regarding the political pressure exerted by Armenia on Artsakh authorities to create new grounds for accusations against former presidents,” the newspaper writes.
