VIDEO: Icebreaker 'Ermak' Catches Fire in St. Petersburg
A fire has broken out on the icebreaker 'Ermak' in the St. Petersburg port, which is undergoing dismantling, reported Andrey Litovkin, head of the press service of the city of GUMES. There is a diesel icebreaker 'Ermak' at the dock, currently being decommissioned, with a fire reported on the lower deck, where trash is burning in a room covering 20 square meters.
Litovkin mentioned in a video published on the department's Telegram channel, "This year the icebreaker is being dismantled." The fire was reported at 11:23 AM in the third section of the marine port in the Kirovsky district. There are currently no reports of casualties.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations has deployed 12 units of equipment and 46 personnel to extinguish the fire. Later, the Northwestern Transport Prosecutor's Office announced that an investigation has been initiated following the fire on the icebreaker. "The Northwestern Transport Prosecutor's Office is checking the implementation of fire safety legislation in response to the fire that broke out on the unused icebreaker 'Ermak' in the major port of St. Petersburg," the department's Telegram channel reported.
