South Korea and the U.S. to Begin Freedom Shield Exercises on March 4

The Republic of Korea's armed forces and U.S. military personnel will conduct the Freedom Shield exercises from March 4 to 14. This was reported by the American military contingent in the Republic of Korea.

The exercises will include operations on land, at sea, in the air, and in cyberspace, as well as the use of 'space capabilities' to respond to enemy nuclear forces. Representatives from 10 countries that are members of the United Nations Command will also participate in the exercises.

Freedom Shield encompasses 'field and virtual exercises' through computer simulations. In connection with Freedom Shield, South Korea and the U.S. will conduct several large-scale exercises aimed at strengthening cooperation and combat readiness, according to a press release.

In Pyongyang, U.S.-South Korea exercises are typically referred to as a rehearsal for war against the DPRK. South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik stated on Tuesday that Seoul and Washington will hold twice as many exercises in the first half of this year compared to last year.
