Proposed Areas and Job Opportunities for Artsakh Residents Are Not Comparable, Deputy Prime Minister
The proposed living areas and job opportunities for our compatriots forcibly displaced from Artsakh are not comparable. This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia, Tigran Khachatryan, during a Q&A session in the National Assembly with the government.
“We acknowledge that not all regions of Armenia have great job opportunities. We can agree that job opportunities are more abundant in Yerevan and adjacent provinces. However, the support is based on the principle that the family chooses where to exercise its purchasing rights,” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
In his opinion, the situation will normalize naturally. The government will also implement additional support measures in certain regions.
The Armenian government is discussing the possibility of providing additional financial assistance to those forcibly displaced from Artsakh, should they agree to live in distant areas.
Next week, the government will publish a list of preferred residential areas where such assistance is expected to be provided. The allocated amount will be a one-time support of 3 million drams per individual.
“Moreover, we will allow that if the amount from the house purchase certificate is not fully utilized (i.e., less money is required than what is allocated for the apartment), the remaining amount can be used to acquire an economic asset, for example, a plot of agricultural land,” he added.
He reiterated that the certificates are expected to be issued in phases.
It is worth noting that on February 27, the Deputy Prime Minister stated on Public Television that those Artsakh residents who become citizens of Armenia and link their future to Armenia will have the opportunity to own a home here. According to him, only after ten years will the family be able to manage that property, including selling it.
The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that the areas allocated for the construction of homes for the Artsakh residents will not be limited to solely border villages but will primarily include rural communities.
