International Security Situation Clearly Deteriorating: Iran's Foreign Ministry

Iran calls for the eradication of all global nuclear arsenals, as they pose the greatest threat to humanity. This was stated by Iran's Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian. The information was reported by TASS.

"Iran demands the destruction of all nuclear weapons, which are the most significant man-made threat to all humanity. The complete elimination of nuclear weapons is the only effective and reliable means to prevent a recurrence of tragedies like Hiroshima and Nagasaki," the minister’s statement, quoted on the official Telegram channel of the foreign ministry, said.

The head of Iran's diplomacy also noted that the Islamic Republic, having become the largest victim of weapons of mass destruction due to chemical weapons used by Saddam Hussein's regime after World War II (referring to the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988), emphasizes that the only guarantee for the non-use of weapons of mass destruction, including nuclear weapons, is their complete, irreversible, and verifiable destruction.

Amir-Abdollahian added that Iran is "deeply convinced that the integrity and effectiveness of the Non-Proliferation Treaty depend on the full implementation of all obligations contained within it, including Article 6, which obligates nuclear-armed states to conduct negotiations aimed at effective and result-oriented disarmament." According to the Iranian FM, "if all member states of the disarmament conference, especially nuclear powers, demonstrate political will and fulfill their disarmament obligations, we will manage to emerge from the deadlock that the conference is currently in." He expressed regret that "collective efforts to create a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East remain fruitless due to the actions of the U.S. and its allies."

"In a situation where the international security situation is clearly deteriorating, nuclear disarmament is not a choice but a necessity," Amir-Abdollahian concluded.
