Why Our Sidewalks Should Be Asphalt and Not Basalt or Other Stones: Sukiasyan

The entire territory of Armenia is rich in basalt, but the pricing of basalt within the country remains perplexing. This statement was made by Khachatur Sukiasyan, a member of the Armenian Parliament from the Civil Contract party, during an extraordinary meeting of the Permanent Commission on Regional and Eurasian Integration.

“What does this mean? It suggests that these facilities are unable to produce in large quantities. Our entire country's subsurface consists of basalt; who is analyzing why the prices are what they are? Perhaps it’s the equipment that cannot provide the necessary volume. Why should our sidewalks be asphalt rather than basalt or other stones that have similar density? The issue isn’t basalt itself; these are problems which, with investments, could greatly increase production volumes. We need to correctly assess what we want and why the prices are at their current levels,” Sukiasyan noted.
