Unique Photos of the Northern Lights Shaped Like a Bird Displayed by NASA

A photograph published by Orda.kz titled "The Phoenix Over Iceland" was taken 30 kilometers away from Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland. The author of the photo, photographer Halgrímur Helgason, is a professional aurora hunter. This term refers to those who regularly venture out to capture this unique nocturnal phenomenon.

Recounting the story behind this photograph, Helgason said, "All the hunters had already gone home. Typically, the celestial show ends around 3:30 AM. But suddenly, completely unexpectedly, a new surge of particles fell from space, creating an aurora once again in the Earth's atmosphere. Amazingly, the burst took on the distinct shape of a bird—a giant Phoenix. My equipment was still ready, and I was able to capture two frames."

Of all Helgason's photographic collection, the Phoenix is perhaps the most striking. However, the photographer's other works also leave a lasting impression.
