Trump Appeals Court Ruling Declaring Him Guilty
The former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has appealed the court ruling in a civil fraud case that requires him to pay approximately $464 million. Trump's attorneys have requested a review to determine whether the presiding judge made errors, abused his discretion, or acted beyond his jurisdiction.
Earlier in February, a New York court ordered the former president to pay a penalty of $355 million and over $100 million in interest. The court also prohibited him from holding any director or leadership position in corporations registered in New York for three years.
Prosecutors have stated that Trump and his associates, the former leaders of the Trump Organization, falsified financial statements to obtain better loan and insurance terms. As a result, Trump allegedly "fraudulently inflated his wealth by billions of dollars to unjustly enrich himself and deceive the system, thereby misleading everyone."
