Russia Does Not Fit the Character Desired by the U.S., Says Nuland

Russia does not fit the character that the United States would like to see. This statement was made by Victoria Nuland, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Political Affairs, to reporters.

“This is not the Russia that, to be honest, we wanted. We wanted a partner that would orient towards the West, becoming European. However, that is not what Putin did,” Nuland said during a CNN broadcast.

She stated that the American leadership would continue to tighten restrictive measures against Russian leaders in order to compel official Moscow to seriously sit at the negotiating table.
