VIDEO: 5 New Border Posts Opened by NSS

The NSS of Armenia has opened 5 new border posts, along with adjacent officers' barracks. This information was provided by the Information Department of the National Security Service of Armenia, noting that the ceremony was attended by the Director of the NSS, Major General Armen Abazyan.

"Regional processes indicate that the tension along the state border has effectively increased," Abazyan stated during his speech.

The newly established border posts in Syunik, Chakatent, Yeghvard, Kaghunut, and David Bek are fully equipped with modern technology, armaments, and necessary supplies. The border troops are continuously being equipped with various technical means; 18 border posts have been outfitted, and trenches, firing points, and observation points with nets have been constructed.

Abazyan emphasized that the rearmament and modernization of border troops are imperative in light of the risks prevalent in the region, ranging from illegal drug trafficking to the transport of terrorists, and from illegal migration to smuggling.

It is noteworthy that since December 2020, the NSS border troops have gradually taken over the protection of certain sections of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border from units of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. To organize the protection of the newly formed area more effectively, border posts complying with modern requirements have been constructed in a very short time with funds allocated by the Armenian government.
