I Cannot Trust Aliyev. I Think Aliyev Does Not Trust Me Either: Nikol Pashinyan
I cannot trust Aliyev. I think Aliyev does not trust me either. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, in an interview with France 24.
“I believe that the history of our relations itself is fundamentally based on deep distrust. I think it makes no sense for both of us to ask each other whether we trust each other or not. It is obvious that we do not. But the issue is not that; the question is whether we are ready to build confidence step by step. It is within the process of building trust that we have difficulties.
I want to say that when Aliyev says they are ready for peace, they are also preparing for war. There is such an impression. But to be objective, I believe that if you ask them, they would also say that they do not trust us either. But that is not the point. Because the point is something else. Are we mutually prepared to build trust, step by step, with small steps, and if possible, larger ones, so that we can believe each other's words?” said Pashinyan.
