Armenia Monitors Sanctions Against Russia, Neither the US nor the EU Have Reservations Towards Us - Prime Minister

In an interview with France 24, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan addressed whether the West is pressuring Armenia to join the sanctions imposed against Russia. He stated, “We do not have such a regime of joining or not joining, but on the other hand, we take into account the existing sanctions because it is not that we are being pressured or demanded that if we do not adhere to the sanctions it will affect our relations with the countries that impose those sanctions, and those relations are important for us.”

Pashinyan expressed satisfaction at being asked this question, particularly because accusations have periodically emerged within the European Union that Armenia is not adhering to the sanctions regime. He emphasized that, “I can say that during this time, most recently in 2023, we have had several delegations from the European Union and the United States whose purpose was to ascertain how loyal the Republic of Armenia is to its international relations and obligations and how it interacts with those sanctions.”

He noted that “neither the European Union nor the United States has presented any reservations regarding us. On the contrary, they officially recorded that there are no reservations towards the Republic of Armenia in the context of sanctions.”

However, he lamented that this matter is not widely discussed, and Armenia does not frequently raise the topic, calling it an operational matter. Pashinyan highlighted that misinformation, propaganda, and disinformation regarding Armenia may have led to some erroneous statements being made against Armenia in several EU countries and media. He reiterated, “But I say again, it has been officially recorded by both the European Union and the United States that there is no basis to accuse Armenia on this issue.”
