Scholz Supports Rutte's Candidacy for NATO Secretary General
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has endorsed the candidacy of Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte for the position of NATO Secretary General. This was reported by Reuters, citing a source within the German government.
The current head of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, has held the position since 2014, and his term is expected to expire in October of this year. According to three anonymous diplomats, around 20 member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance have currently approved Rutte's candidacy.
However, another source from the agency warned that the military alliance has not yet reached a final agreement on this issue, and at any moment, a new favorite could emerge for the NATO Secretary General position.
