Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Mrs. Anna Hakobyan attended a ceremony alongside French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, to honor the remains of Armenian hero of the Resistance movement, Misak Manushyan, and his wife, Meline Manushyan, at the Pantheon in France.

The event was also attended by French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, former French President Francois Hollande, and members of the governments and legislatures of Armenia and France, as well as public and political figures.

During the ceremony, Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech. In his address, the French President noted that Misak Manushyan was free when he walked the streets and passed by this Pantheon. “He imagined what his beloved Armenia would be like. Manushyan referred to himself as a ‘tiger filled with wrath’ when he was arrested, but Meline was with him in all adventures and kept him alive. The final, permanent choice was freedom. He chose a clandestine life so that the French would lose nothing of their freedom, always being a soldier intoxicated with liberty,” Macron said, adding that today there is a France that is grateful to them.

“Misak and 23 others, and all those who belonged to this freedom, were ultimately honored with love and freedom for eternity,” the French President concluded.
