Mher Yenoqyan's Early Conditional Release Application Denied
Mher Yenoqyan, sentenced to life imprisonment, will not be granted early conditional release. This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by the judicial department.
Judge Masis Melkonyan rejected the petition at the Avan court of general jurisdiction in Yerevan.
It should be noted that an application for Yenoqyan's early conditional release had been submitted by lawyer Zarouhi Mejlumyan.
Recall that in 1996, the student of Yerevan State Medical University, 21-year-old Iosif Aghajanyan, was murdered. Yenoqyan, a classmate, and Aram Harutyunyan, a classmate of his brother, were charged with the murder.
According to the criminal case, on July 12, 1996, Yenoqyan, in agreement with Harutyunyan, took his classmate Iosif Aghajanyan to Harutyunyan's apartment with the intent to murder him and demand $20,000 from Aghajanyan's parents for disclosing the location of his body. They brutally murdered Aghajanyan there.
During the trial, Yenoqyan pleaded not guilty. Aram Harutyunyan initially admitted guilt and was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The physical evidence attached to the case was destroyed after the proceedings concluded.
It should be noted that a decision was made on September 2, 2022, to soften Yenoqyan's punishment regime. He was transferred from a semi-open regime to an open regime, allowing him to leave the correctional facility from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM. After returning, he can sleep separately from other inmates in accommodations allocated outside the area where inmates are kept.
