Details Revealed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs Regarding the Azerbaijani Individual Wanted by Armenia
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia received an official notice from Russia on February 21, regarding the discovery of Azerbaijani citizen Kamil Zeynaliev, who is wanted by Armenia for crimes against humanity. The ministry immediately confirmed that Zeynaliev is subject to international search by Armenia, with a measure of restraint being detention.
In an interview with Armenpress, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Narek Sargsyan, stated, "On February 21, at noon, the unit that initiated the wanted notice was informed via an official letter about the discovery of the wanted individual and requested to reconfirm the fact of the search. In response, the initiating division immediately confirmed that the individual is indeed on the international wanted list, with a measure of restraint being detention. Despite circulating news about the release of the wanted individual, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has prepared a document package foreseen by the extradition procedure, which will be presented to the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Armenia to carry out necessary actions towards transferring to the Russian law enforcement authorities and organizing the further extradition process," stated the ministry's spokesperson.
On February 21, it was reported that Russian police detained Azerbaijani citizen Kamil Zeynaliev at Domodedovo Airport in Moscow, who is wanted by Armenia through international law enforcement. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia informed media that Zeynaliev is wanted on charges of murder.
Later, Azerbaijani media, citing Zeynaliev's lawyer, provided details on the charges presented against him in Armenia. The lawyer revealed that charges have been brought against his client for crimes against humanity, mercenarism, and military aggression.
On the evening of February 21, it became known that Russian law enforcement officials had released Zeynaliev, and later Azerbaijani media reported that Kamil Zeynaliev had returned to Baku, sharing corresponding photos and videos.
Unofficial information suggests that Kamil Zeynaliev participated in the 44-day war in 2020, during which he allegedly committed war crimes, including the murder of a civilian.
