Call to the International Olympic Committee to Oppose Azerbaijan's Participation in the Olympic Games
The "Europeans for Artsakh" movement has sent a letter to the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), urging the disallowance of Azerbaijan's participation in the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris and calling for the IOC to take concrete measures against the country's involvement.
The letter has also been sent to the President of the French Republic, the French National Olympic Committee, the organizing committee of the Paris Olympic Games, the Paris City Hall, as well as the Minister of Sports, Olympics, and Paralympic Games.
Based on the ongoing ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Azerbaijan against the people of Artsakh, the "Europeans for Artsakh" movement has called on the IOC to prevent Azerbaijan from being represented as a state in the upcoming Olympic Games and to allow Azerbaijani athletes to compete only under a neutral flag.
This call comes in the wake of the forced displacement of 120,000 Armenians from their ancestral lands due to Azerbaijan's genocidal policies and ethnic cleansing in September 2023.
The only response to the letter has come from the French National Olympic Committee, which acknowledged the situation and noted that its position aligns with that of the French government and its diplomatic efforts, stating: "We cannot remain indifferent to such a disaster."
The "Europeans for Artsakh" movement expects a clear stance from the International Olympic Committee, emphasizing that a lack of action would undermine the fundamental significance of the Olympic Games and pave the way for aggressive states.
