Tensions Rise Again in Gegharkunik Province
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that tensions are set to rise again today in the Gegharkunik province as residents, particularly from the Martuni enlarged community, prepare to hold protests and block roads.
The reason for the protests is the initiative by the State Revenue Committee (SRC) to impose taxes on citizens who work abroad. Specifically, citizens who, unable to find work in their own country, go abroad in search of a livelihood are now required to declare their earnings and pay income tax to the Republic of Armenia, despite already paying taxes in the country where they earn their income.
Martuni residents are among the most likely to seek work abroad, and the prospect of paying additional taxes to the state has angered them, leading to their demand for the cancellation of this legislative requirement.
