No State Official Under Investigation in Armenia's 1 Ton Cocaine Case, Says MP

Approximately a year ago, a case involving 1 ton of cocaine discovered in the Republic of Armenia has not resulted in the investigation of any state official. This was stated by Agnesa Khampoyan, a member of the ‘Armenia’ parliamentary faction, on her Facebook page.

“The cargo, valued at €250 million, made it to Yerevan without obstruction from Panama through the territory of the Italian Republic and Georgia. Apart from three employees of the commercial organization (who are currently under house arrest) where the cargo was discovered, there has been no further development in the case,” she noted.

She reminded that during a Q&A session with the government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had stated that he was not familiar with the details of the case, which is difficult to believe, to say the least. The National Security Service refused to provide any information about the case, attributing all inquiries to the secrecy of the preliminary investigation.

In response to her written inquiry (which Nikol Pashinyan forwarded to the Ministry of Internal Affairs) about whether any customs officials are involved in the case, the official response stated: “Relevant operational and investigative measures (including those within the framework of international legal assistance) are being carried out to ascertain the possible involvement of officials in the commission of the crime. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.”

Almost a year has passed, and there is still no indication of any official responsible for facilitating the seamless transportation of the cargo to Armenia facing charges. I remind you that we are talking about 1 ton of cocaine, and transactions of this scale simply do not occur without the involvement of high-ranking officials, guarantors, or logistics managers.

I leave the conclusions to you. P.S. Given Karen Andreasyan's enviable experience in cinematography, I propose allocating funds from state resources to create a film on this 'unsolved' case with the help of his scriptwriting talent,” the MP stated.
